It's finally here!
The title of my debut novel is ‘The Tenets in the Tattoos.’ This took me so long to come up with, and yet when I hit on it (pushing my child on the swings in the park – inspiration can really strike anywhere!) I knew it fit right away.
Thorrn has sets of tattoos across his body, setting out his military history and celebrating campaigns where he has distinguished himself. (“There are lots of those,” he tells Evyn proudly. She rolls her eyes at him.) They act like codes, confirming his rank and status, and allowing him access to the researchers and stores at the castle.
The tattoos also represent the oaths he took, the core tenets that he keeps as a member of Special Forces. Above all, the first and most important tenet is to obey the royal family without question and without hesitation. (That can’t possibly go wrong, can it?)
Breaking the tenets of Special Forces means one thing. Death.
Thorrn is an accomplished swordsman desperate for his promotion. But when the king orders that he hand over a girl from Earth, Thorrn’s soul companion, Thorrn struggles to obey. If he doesn’t bow to the king’s wishes, he will be executed.
Aubin is sick of being an apothecary. Unable to defeat death, chafing at injustices piled on him, he’s ready to quit. But when he sees someone in distress and realises he could help, he is confronted with a life-changing choice – he will have to commit treason to remedy this.
Working together, the swordsman and the apothecarist come up with an unlikely plan. Only if they trust each other and put their egos aside can they defeat their common enemy. But do they even have a common enemy, and can the apothecarist be trusted at all…?
